From the book Other People's Rejection Letters: Relationship Enders, Career Killers, and 150 Other Letters You'll Be Glad You Didn't Receive, edited by Bill Shapiro

What happened after the rejection letter?

Bill Dobrow was 12 years old when he decided to join the Marines. The Corps politely declined, encouraging him to get his high-school diploma before enlisting. Not long after he received this letter, Bill, who'd been messing around on the drums for a couple of years, formed his first band. Bill let the Marines go, but he stuck with the drums: in recent years, he has recorded and toured with the Black Crowes, Sean Lennon, and Martha Wainwright, among others.
