"Robert is the last of that period, isn't he, where it's still chemicals, it's the process of film—he's using film. He knows that . . . I always assume when he's taking a photograph, he knows what range of grays he's going to get . . . That was his eye. And he would know . . . have an idea how it was going to look on page . . . It was a craft. With photography, you just need an eye to compose. That's all it is, isn't it?"
