Beer-Crazy: The Best Weird Brews of Summer

Think blueberry ale is weird? You clearly haven't tried beers made with oysters, pizza, or doughnuts. But even those are yesteryear's dares. The need to experiment with strange, unorthodox, even vaguely inedible-sounding ingredients is hitting ever-greater heights this summer as brewers unveil oddball concoctions made with gunpowder, Spanish cedar, and, most stomach-turningly, beard yeast. Below, some brand-new, truly unusual beers.

Rejewvenator (Shmaltz Brewing, California and New York)
The Draw: Spiritual beer containing sacred fruits
Release date: May
Shmaltz Brewing, makers of the Jewish-themed He'brew Beer and Coney Island Craft Lagers, is now looking to the traditions of monks and the fertile Holy Land for inspiration. This year's Rejewvenator is half Belgian-style Dubbel Ale and half Doppelbock European Lager and contains dates and figs.
