When Robert Molnar abandoned the fashion industry in the eighties, his flamboyant women’s line was inspiring the same frenetic buzz as the clothing of then-rising star Marc Jacobs. After over a decade styling magazine covers and personal clients like Sting and Bruce Springsteen, Molnar is back on Seventh Avenue with a namesake line for men.
“Men don’t want over-the-top,” says Molnar, “They want quiet.” In that spirit, the complexity of his Dior-inspired clothing lies in the details: Sweaters break at the elbow; jackets have a vent that holds the back flaps together. Not the stuff of controversy, but definitely cause for excitement.
The line ($300 to $2,000) will be sold at Atelier in New York (212-941-8435).
