The Best Waxed-Cotton Jackets
Durable, breathable, and stylish, the season's best outerwear is ready for tough conditions—meteorological or otherwise.
Mariners have been using oil and grease to weatherproof sailcloth for centures. That's where the brains behind storied U.K. brands like Belstaff and Barbour got the idea to apply a protective wax coating to outerwear, giving it added toughness as well as a distinctive worn-in patina. Over the decades the multistep process has ben refined, yielding jackets that can endure road burn, thorn pricks, torrential rains, and—as their continued popularity shows—the test of time.
