Insider's Guide: Public School's New York

If you want to navigate Manhattan like you know what you're doing, fashion designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow can show you the way.

The running joke about New York? No one who lives there is actually from there. That's not the case with Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow, the CFDA-award-winning designer duo behind the menswear line Public School (fittingly, the brand's name comes from the fact that they both went to one—Chow in Tribeca, Osborne in Greenwich Village). Having met and become friends at Sean John nearly a decade ago, the two now spend most of their working hours in the garment district. "Believe it or not, there are little gems here and there," says Chow of their adopted neighborhood. Still, like all proper New Yorkers, they do their fair share of getting out.
