8 Things Our Fathers Taught Us That We'll Never Forget

A look back at the best gifts our dear old dads ever gave us: sound advice. Herein, guidance on timeless style, enjoying life, and why you should always do your homework.

(And speaking of homework, if you still haven't gotten a Father's Day gift, our handy guide should help.)

The Classics Never Go Out of Style

This is my favorite photo of me, my father, Lee, and my grandfather Wallace on his boat The Marwal somewhere in Nantucket Sound in the summer of 1973.

My grandfather died when I was 4 years old, so I don't really have many memories of him. But I love that he wore chinos and a peach-colored polo shirt even when sailing. Also, how great are my dad's printed swim trunks? Both men taught me to keep it classic—which, when done properly, never goes out of style.
