The Buyer's Shopping Guide
We asked the head buyers at three of our favorite e-commerce sites about the coats worth investing in, the trends to pay attention to, and where all the cool kids go.

Stacey Smith, Menswear buyer for matchesfashion.com

The Outerwear to Buy: "It's our second season carrying Haider Ackermann, and he's got this beautiful floor-length diamond-and-herringbone jacquard coat." [pictured below, left]

The No. 1 Trend All Men Should Note: "This season there was a lot of play on volume—in outerwear, knitwear, and pants. We saw pleat-front trousers that give volume to the legs as well as great Christophe Lemaire draped knits."

What I'll Get for Myself: "There's a Christopher Kane molecule cashmere sweater that's fabulous, almost like it's 3-D." [pictured below, right]

Where I Trendspot: "The Chiltern Firehouse is a new pub in London. It's definitely where you can find your understated, cool fashion guys."

Magali Ginsburg, Head of buying for thecorner.com

The Outerwear to Buy: "I fell in love with several double-faced cashmere coats from Valentino. They're hand-embroidered on the back and shoulders with a design that almost resembles a featherlike print." [pictured below, left]

The No. 1 Trend All Men Should Note: "Herringbone is a beautiful, refined print that works on almost any piece of clothing or accessory. It's very traditional in menswear, but a lot of designers, like Kris Van Assche, reinvented it this season." [pictured below, right]

What I'll Get for Myself: "I've got my eye on a Raf Simons tricolor sweater with patches. It isn't specifically a unisex piece, but I think any Raf Simons knit can be worn by a woman as well as a man."

Where I Trendspot: "The Carreau du Temple in the Marais in Paris just reopened as a cultural center for events and shows. It has beautiful architecture from the second part of the 19th century, and it's always filled with interesting, arty people."

Toby Bateman, Buying director for mrporter.com

The Outerwear to Buy: "A double-faced overcoat from Calvin Klein Collection in a thick, soft cashmere. There's a tone of casualness and comfort to the season, and big, soft coats are a major trend within that theme—this one is skillfully cut and quite utilitarian." [pictured below, left]

The No. 1 Trend All Men Should Note: "Goose-down gilets, or vests, as you call them in America. It's an item that really draws on the influence that sports has on the way we dress these days. They're a practical and stylish layering tool over a tailored outfit."

What I'll Get for Myself: "A pair of cordovan derbies from Edward Green. It's a brand out of Northampton, England, and each pair takes several weeks to make. You can wear them with selvage denim—I get mine from the Jean Shop—a navy blazer, and a silk knit tie." [pictured below, right]

Where I Trendspot: "I like to walk around the shops in Tokyo, and I always meet with the team behind Beams—a huge brick-and-mortar retailer in Japan. Collectively, they're one well-dressed bunch!"
