Father's Day Gift Guide 2012

Dad doesn't need another sweater—or a bottle of scotch. Check out these smart alternatives to the usual suspects.

May 18, 2012

Remember the handmade ashtray you gave Dad, back when an ashtray was an acceptable gift? Or how about the Popsicle-sticks box? Yeah, you've worked pretty hard to make the man happy every Father's Day. But let's face it: There are only so many worthless knickknacks and sweaters he can stuff in his closet. This year, score some points for originality with our "alternatives to the usual crap" gift guide. We understand that only the best will do—though he probably still has that ashtray.

Instead of a book:

Invest in the just-released Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight. This diminutive, super-light e-reader with a touchscreen and anti-glare technology allows Dad to do two key things: 1) Read in even the brightest sunlight, and 2) consume books in bed without waking up Mom (or, you know, whomever he sleeps beside).
