An International Guide to Sporting Vacation Destinations

A relaxing break doesn't have to mean a sedentary week spent in a lounge chair. From the Philippines to southern Spain, some of the most exotic and luxurious destinations in the world offer state-of-the-art sporting facilities for fans of scuba-diving, kite-surfing, rock-climbing, and other active escapes. Here, the health experts at the Q Blog by Equinox profile six active holidays that will take your breath away—for more reasons than one.

Greece: Rock Climb

Where to Play: While neighboring islands attract beach bums and party people, the small Greek island of Kalymnos is where adventure seekers go to take advantage of more than 2,000 climbing routes on spectacular limestone.

Where to Stay: The villages of Masouri, Armeos, or Myrties are beneath many of the popular crags. Hotel Philoxenia, a friendly, family-run spot, is less than three-fourths of a mile from the best climbing sites on the island.

The Draw: The weather is relatively mild year-round, but the best time to climb is in October, when the annual the Kalymnos climbing festival takes place (October 10-13).
