Leg Workout: The One-Leg Stand-Up to Box Jump

Stand and deliver a toned lower body with this two-part exercise.

February 2012 Issue

What's in a name? The one-leg stand-up to box jump sounds about as flashy as a line-dancing move, but this exercise is all but unmatched in building your legs, providing them with explosive power. And it's more than just a lower-body workout—it engages your core throughout the movement; it requires you to balance on one foot, refining your body's mechanics, which in turn helps keep you injury-free; and, because it gets the body's biggest set of muscles (your legs) firing, the move will have you burning fat within minutes. Start out with a low box (the higher the box, the more difficult the move) and complete three sets of 20, alternating sides with each rep.
