"California Dreaming" in the Big Apple: Street Art Welcomes The New Whitney

LA artists give NYC's streets a taste of laid-back cool for a good cause.

It's a little taste of West-Coast flavor in the new center of East-Coast art. Los Angeles artists Mario Ybarra Jr. and Karla Diaz have collaborated on a new wall mural entitled "California Dreaming" in New York City. As part of the Whitney Museum of American Art's Community Day, artists Ybarra Jr. and Diaz celebrated the ground breaking of the museum's new location in the Meatpacking District.

Their black and white collage of symbol-laden cartoon figures is featured at street-level on THE DETAILS GUILD wall, which works to make great art accessible to new collectors. To give you a chance to participate in the art and to help in their efforts, the artists have made limited edition t-shirts and prints featuring a detail from their mural. Net proceeds will benefit the Whitney Museum's art education programs. Buy now, there're only 100 left!
