Everyone Should Just Grow Out His Hair Like This Guy

Meet the behind-the-scenes man with the best hair in Hollywood.

His name is Cary Joji Fukunaga, and he is your new long-hair inspiration.

No one had probably heard of this guy before this year's Emmy Awards, but when he went up to accept his statue for Outstanding Direction for a Drama Series for HBO's moody psychological cop show True Detective, that all changed. Quickly.

Needless to say, a lot of people on Twitter noticed Fukunaga's all-around good looks, but to us, the standout was Fukunaga's hair situation. We had, up until now, thought we had seen everything when it came to men's hairstyles—at least everything that was even feasibly appropriate. And when it came to long hair, our general feeling was to leave that alone. It's a lot of work and probably won't look good on most guys. But this guy? He changed our opinion. Braids? Man, what sort of tonsorial sorcery are you pulling over there? You are blowing our minds.

So, as winter approaches, it's time to consider growing out your hair and copying everything that Cary Joji Fukunaga does. Glasses, tuxedo, the whole thing—but especially the hair. Herewith, a short but comprehensive inspiration board.

Here is a detailed shot of his Emmys style. Is that a French braid? That's some advanced shit.

He has even rocked the man-bun, and it is glorious. Cancel any hair appointments you may have scheduled—now.

Even his short-hair game is on point. This man is versatile.

Cary Joji Fukunaga is a half-Japanese half-Swedish former competitive snowboarder. A man-braid will not look good on anyone who isn't that.

Just something to consider before you start begging your 8-year-old niece to teach you how to braid.
