The Details x CFDA Weekender Collection: Custom Duffel Bags by 20 Top Designers

Details and the CFDA have teamed up for another menswear project (remember those pocket squares last fall?). This time we asked twenty of the best men's designers for their interpretation of a classic weekender duffel bag. Last night, #menswear fans gathered at the Mondrian SoHo penthouse to raise a glass in honor of the bags and the men who designed them.

Details and the CFDA have teamed up for another Men's Project (remember those pocket squares last fall?). This time we asked 20 of the best men's designers for their interpretation of a classic weekender duffel bag. Last night, #menswear fans gathered at the Mondrian SoHo penthouse to raise a glass in honor of the bags and the men who designed them. The fête had had all the trappings of a grown-up frat party: dominoes on the tables, Arnold Palmer cocktails, and a performance from the band the Branches. We got an up-close look at the bags and caught up with some of the designers.

The bags themselves, will be auctioned off exclusively on eBay from June 10 to 17 (see our slideshow for more info), with proceeds going to the CFDA, which benefits emerging designers. They vary as widely as the designers who participate. Marc Jacobs went back to his punk roots with a button-covered bag, Simon Spurr(the designer, not the brand) went for a military motif with spiked accents, and Michael Bastian was surprised to see that his wasn't the only bag covered in patches—the Ovadia brothers followed suit. "Well ours has grommets on it too," said Bastian. "We made an intern hammer them all in, and then that intern quit. But usually they love projects like that! And this was a great project."

Inspired by all the weekender bags, everyone began comparing summer plans, but it turns out there's no rest for the weary in #menswear. Bastian flies to Sweden this week to present Gant's Spring 2014 collection, followed by a trip to Milan and men's market obligations through July. Even Spurr said he'd be busy all summer finalizing his next job. He finished his consultancy with Tommy Hilfiger in February and expects his new post to be announced by September. And although CFDA CEO Steven Kolb is fresh off Monday's awards, he's got a packed calendar all summer long. His next stop? Beijing for a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Maybe he'll take a weekender along? Said Kolb, "They're all great bags, toss your CFDA pocket squares in them and run off!"
