They say you should never meet your heroes, but they never said anything about visiting their tombstones. For the star-seeker with an affinity for the morbid, there's Celebrity Gravesites.
The 99-cent app, which is currently available for both iPhone and iPad, uses GPS technology to chart the locations of your favorite stars' final resting places. It also provides basic facts about the deceased (like dates of birth and death) and a photograph. You can search by celebrity or by your current location, and the app spits out step-by-step directions via Google Maps.
While the database currently boasts around 400 stars (with constant additions), there is one obvious limitation: In order for any gravesite to be included, it has to actually be known. So you won't find Farrah Fawcett in the directory, because where she's buried hasn't been made public. But creator Tom Aude doesn't seem to be too preoccupied with that. "My thinking is, this is Celebrity Gravesites—not Celebrity Deaths," he says. "Same thing with cremation. Dick Clark was cremated, and his ashes scattered over the Pacific Ocean. Wouldn't be much of a tourist attraction, would it?" Point taken.
Celebrity Gravesites may seem a bit dark as far as apps are concerned—but it's still a better conversation-starter than Angry Birds.
