Oliver Spencer is known for his love of music and color, and he served up both for his Spring 2015 show in London. A live samba percussion band played as models came out in shades of blue, red, and yellow.
Spencer, who created sweatshirts and textured linen knitwear for this offering, talked with us before the show about the artist that inspired him this season and the new store he's opening up.
What is the inspiration behind this season's collection?
A lot of my inspiration now comes from art. Each season I choose a different artist to draw stimulus from. This time Mexican architect Luis Barragán has motivated me and provided the inspiration for the Spring Summer offering.
Barragán's use of colour blocks, light and space reflect the spirit of emotional architecture and can be seen throughout the layering; long shirts and artist smocks.
What are your key pieces from the collection?
I love the artist smock in bleached denim. Other standout pieces would be the long shirts and cropped jackets. Mixing the two creates a good layering effect."
What's next for Oliver Spencer?
We are due to open up a new shop in the East End of London, on Corbett Avenue. We already have a store in the Soho district, but the East End seems to be a good fit for the brand as the area and brand develops.
