Last week was a good one for designer Michael Bastian. Not only did he win the 2011 CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year, but he released a collection of sunglasses in collaboration with Randolph Engineering (RE) — the same guys who've been making shades for the U.S. Air Force for decades. Bastian's sporty aesthetic meshes well with RE's utilitarian look, and, thanks to the company's military-grade standards, these are tough-guy sunglasses with stylish appeal. Frames from the line follow the curve of the skull for a comfortable fit without pressure, and cable temples hold them in place through any activity. Said Bastian, "I feel their sunglasses are the real deal — perfectly made, perfectly masculine, and timeless." No wonder the boys walking his runway frequently rock these rugged, yet sophisticated, shades.
