The world will never know what a Jay-Z/Barneys party would look like. The retailer canceled the splashy kick-off for its Jay-Z collab after the recent racial-profiling allegations, leaving us to forever wonder about what might have been (The sneaker porn! The possible Blue Ivy sightings!). But every burst bubble has its silver lining: Barneys announced last weekend that it would increase its contribution to the Sean Carter Foundation from 25 to 100 percent. (Entertainment Weekly)
It's not often that we're excited about stuff getting more expensive, but ASOS is upping its game with its new "Crafted In" collection, which focuses on quality materials like Harris Tweed, British Millerain, and Japanese selvage. English-made shoes will also be in the mix, though all are (rather puzzlingly) rendered in black with bright red accents. (Complex)
On the other end of the diffusion spectrum, Thom Browne, the man who popularized "pre-shrunk" suits, is introducing a slightly lower-priced collection. Unlike the runway line, the new offering will feature pants that hit at the shoe. Whatever you do, though, don't call it a commercial undertaking. "The word [commercial] has negative connotations," Browne told WWD. "It will still have the same quality as my collection, but it will broaden the business." For the latest installment of Heineken's #Heineken100 program (which celebrates creative talent that exemplifies the brewer's "Man of the World" slogan), creative director Chris Gibbs worked with Neighborhood (clothing company) to create a pair of truly top-notch denim jeans. The jeans are in real indigo and come finished with bright green stitching—the brewer's signature hue (and one that might be better kept to beer bottles). (PopSop)
Matthew Williams of Been Trill created a 3-D video to mark the drop of the Stussy x Timberland collaboration, which hits stores today. Not only are the graphics amazing (they look like the kind of thing projected on big screens at music festivals), but the boots themselves look pretty good, with the tongue and hangtags branded with the Stussy logo for extra swagger.
