This Is What Your Favorite Celebrity Fad Diet Looks Like as an Old Master Still Life

It must have been fun to clean up after this project.

Fad diets are the last things we want to glamorize, but photographer Dan Bannino has cast extreme regimens (like Simon Cowell's so-called life-enhancing fast, seen above) in a new (old) light that we think the master still-life painters of yesteryear would be proud of.

Bannino photographed a number of restrictive (and some not-so-restrictive) food plans for his "Still Diet" series, which looks at things like the Master Cleanse and the Cabbage Soup Diet with the same eye as a Velázquez still life. He even mined history and created images to reflect what King Henry VIII and Lord Byron might have eaten in an attempt to show that our obsession with consumption "hasn't changed even since the 15th century."

As you scroll through the images below, just try not to think about what your own diet might look like if it were photographed like this. The full set is available for your eyes to devour on Bannino's website.
