A common office supply has inspired the coolest new deck shoe we've seen all season: Tod's Envelope Boat Shoes, made in collaboration with the Japanese design firm Nendo.
The Envelope brings together two materials (either two pieces of soft suede, or one piece of suede and a piece of leather in the same color) and connects them the way a classic catalog envelope closes: by winding a cord around two disks. Tod's partnered with Nendo in 2013, and its principal Oki Sato said it took him nearly a full year to turn his idea for the shoe into a reality.
His goal was to create something he'd wear himself, and the Envelope fits the bill perfectly. It's "not too casual, not too formal; light, soft, relaxing, functional and with a pinch of humor and elegance." The shoe was finished just in time to launch at Milan's Salon Internazionale del Mobile, which ends on April 13, but will be available in Tod's stores around the world soon.
