Focusing on youthful cuts and lightweight materials, 3.1 Phillip Lim's spring/summer 2012 collection includes airy shorts and paper-thin ponchos and windbreakers that are perfect for strolling along beaches or skateboarding on pavement. Recalling the Southern California that Lim grew up in in the eighties and early nineties, these clothes are open and comfortably loose with just a touch of grunge. Some heavier items, like knit sweaters and denim pants, add a rounded mix to these otherwise summertime ensembles. The tight-fitting monochromatic hats that 3.1 introduces adds to the line's sunny vibe that capitalizes on gentler colors, whites, and acid-washed fabrics. One subtle, but welcome break are the denim blue pants and collared shirts with hombré acid wash treatments. Made for the sun, these styles are golden.
