50 Cent isn't wearing a bulletproof vest to eat haute Chinese food at Philippe on New York's Upper East Side. Instead, for a dinner of chicken lettuce wraps with plum sauce, crispy beef, and string beans, he has on a Boston Red Sox baseball cap and T-shirt—and his new fragrance, Power by 50 Cent, which will be introduced on Friday.
Think of it as one more way the rapper's going to Get Rich or Die Tryin'. The final black pepper, coriander, and oak-moss concoction is extremely masculine, but the first few attempts weren't. "This is for guys?" Fiddy said to the perfumers after he smelled the first couple of samples. When he was happy with it, he wore it to Cipriani in New York, where he DJ'ed. A woman told him he smelled good. "So it worked," he says.
In addition to the fragrance, Fiddy also has an album coming out in November, Before I Self Destruct, but it seems he prefers acting most of all. "When I'm on set with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, I can blend in," he says. "I'm not the center of attention." In fact, when he starred with them in last year's Righteous Kill, he was starstruck himself. He says, "I wanted to tap Pacino on the shoulder and say, 'You know you're Scarface, right?'"
