Woman of the Moment: White House Down's Maggie Gyllenhaal

How You Know Her: In 2004, after Maggie Gyllenhaal appeared in Vanity Fair's annual Hollywood issue— for splashing the brightest up-and-comers across its front cover and predicting who you'll be seeing on big screens near you— versatile leading lady went the indie-queen route with starring roles in Donnie Darko, Secretary, and Crazy Heart, only occasionally stepping under the big, bright lights to play the blockbuster babe (see: The Dark Knight).

What You Don't Know: Both Maggie and her younger brother Jake went to Columbia University, where they studied literature and Eastern religions. Jake told Details it was his big sis who first gave him the acting bug: "Maggie was always performing. I got to watch Martha Plimpton and River Phoenix with Sidney Lumet rehearsing Running on Empty. I was 7, and had no idea who these people were. But I knew I was witnessing something magical." Their mother, Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal, wrote the script for the film and was nominated for an Academy Award (best original screenplay).

Current Project: In an uncharacteristic turn, Gyllenhaal will appear in the latest Channing Tatum moneymaker, White House Down, as a Secret Service agent who helps Tatum save the president and the country from total destruction. (Interesting side note: Jamie Foxx plays the prez, and Gyllenhaal has made it clear that she would not vote for for him in real life. See the Jimmy Kimmel clip.)

White House Down hits theaters June 28.
