YVES SAINT LAURENT MILITARY DUFFEL

Inspiration has to come from somewhere. For certain designers it's seventies glam rock. Others look to the great outdoors, while still others revisit the singular style of sixties Italian matinée idols. Stefano Pilati, in his spot-on spring collection for Yves Saint Laurent, focused on military gear, in which design and function have always held equal weight.

The result is a sturdy canvas duffel with contrast handles and stencil detailing suggestive of an officer's rank and serial number. Masculine, versatile, and understated, the bag gives new definition to standard-issue. Courtney Colavita
