10. The Drawing Room at the Greenwich Hotel, New York City
Tucked snugly into a low-key hotel in a lightly traveled stretch of Tribeca, this place feels more like the living room of some fantasy villa—in Gstaad or Lake Como, maybe—than a downtown lobby bar. A monument to coziness with its hulking hearth, embarrassment of rugs, and clusters of overstuffed couches, the Drawing Room invites you to settle in like the place is yours (instead of Robert De Niro's): The easygoing staff will throw a fresh log on the fire before leaving you to nurse that manhattan, and when you head out, you'll be tempted to turn off the lights.
