THE LOOK
Not a shiny, shellacked Mad Men hairdo or a high-flying pompadour, but the tousled, perfectly imperfect sweet spot in between. It's the style of a guy who quickly swept his bangs off his forehead, only to have his hair arrange itself into a photo-ready coif.

HOW TO PULL IT OFF
To achieve this style's floppy, pliant quality, your hair texture should be fairly fine. If it is, tell your barber to cut to about half an inch on the sides and leave at least four inches on top.

HOW TO STYLE IT
After showering and towel-drying your hair, rub a quarter-size dollop of hair cream between your palms. With your fingers, pull your hair sideways and backward from its natural part. You can also use a leave-in conditioner, or even hand lotion in a pinch.

EXPERT ADVICE
"The top should feel long enough that it could potentially get sloppy but be styled right back with a push of the fingers." — Neil Moodie, runway hairstylist
