GUT INSTINCT
A few months ago, Details editor Matthew Marden received a "core precision undershirt" from Equmen, an Australian innerwear company. The literature boasted that the poly/nylon/spandex seamless tank "supports core muscles and visibily streamlines the body." In other words, it's supposed to suck in love handles and smooth out beer bellies. Marden agreed to be a guinea pig for a day. "The good thing is I looked great," he says. "The bad part is I couldn't breathe." So, are men ready to embrace the next-generation mirdle? It seems so. RipT Fusion, Spanx, and 2(x)ist are launching body-enhancing T-shirts and underwear, which means the demand is there and growing. But as Jason Scarlatti of 2(x)ist says, "Men are ordering online—in the privacy of their own homes."
