Four American Designers Who Will Change Men's Fashion

There was a time when American designers were known only as purveyors of polo shirts, khakis, navy blazers, and other solid staples. The French, the Belgians, and the Italians were the innovators and style mavens. Not anymore. Patrik Ervell, Alejandro Ingelmo, Robert Geller, and Adam Kimmel are stirring up menswear with collections as unexpected as they are compelling. You may not know their names yet, but these four New York-based designers are at the vanguard of American fashion—and gaining fans faster than you can say "Hedi Slimane."

4. ALEJANDRO INGELMO
Age: 34

Pet Peeve: "What really bothers me are all these kids in London and the East Village wearing Keds. They're very narrow. Women wear them."

Philosophy: "The shoe reinvents the outfit—it will always make something new again."
