Table for Discussion: MatterMade's Modern-Meets-Rustic Masterpiece

A gorgeous American-made farm table.

August 2010 Issue

Jamie Gray is known mostly for being the proprietor of the New York design store Matter, where he has built a reputation for scouting and selling modern-meets-rustic pieces by rising stars like Paul Loebach and Christopher Specce. But Gray was a designer—schooled in furniture- and cabinetmaking—before he was a retailer, and now he's putting that experience to good use on behalf of his in-house line MatterMade. A platform for American talent, the mostly locally manufactured collection contains Gray's own ash Shaker chairs, as well as lamps, tables, shelves, and accessories from 12 other designers. Who says Europeans should have all the fun? Matter, 405 Broome St., New York City, 212-343-2600
