Classic Midcentury Design Gets an Update

Light up your home with these dazzling new lamps and their vintage prequels.

August 2011 Issue

CONTEMPORARY OFFSHOOT
Each No. 303 lamp by David Weeks—whose lights you may have spotted in Saks, at the W New York Hotel, or on Gossip Girl—is made to order in the designer's Brooklyn studio, with three steel arms that pivot like microphone stands.
Price available upon request; ralphpucci.net

MID-CENTURY ICON
One of a series of lithe, insectlike lights he designed in the early 1950s, Serge Mouille's three-legged MO1 floor lamp was meant to have the same sense of movement as a kinetic sculpture, like a functional version of an Alexander Calder mobile.
$3,200; dwr.com

Prop styling by Lisa Esdalv at ba-reps.com. Bitra lamp: Courtesy of Vitra. All other original lamps: Courtesy of Design Within Reach.
