10 Can't-Miss Events at the 10th Annual Art Basel Miami Beach
The swank extravaganza that has turned South Beach into an international art destination celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. As the expo (which runs December 1–4 at the Miami Beach Convention Center) has grown, a host of additional art happenings have risen up around it. Here, the best of the bunch.
The Ship of Tolerance on Watson Island
Russian-born, U.S.-based conceptual duo Ilya and Emilia Kabakov's acclaimed sculpture, previously exhibited in 2005 in Siwa, Egypt, and at the 2007 Venice Biennale, docks in Miami Beach courtesy of the Miami Children's Museum. It's fashioned after an ancient Egyptian vessel, and local schoolchildren have been invited to illustrate the fabric panels of its sail.
