After acquiring a cavernous 19th-century Episcopal church in the mid-eighties, the notorious eyepatch-wearing impresario Peter Gatien turned the former house of worship into the city's hottest dance den with an opening night hosted by Andy Warhol. Today, following a $15 million renovation, it's a tony boutique mall frequented by shoppers who partied there in their youth.
