An Earth Day ode to upscale resorts that practice sustainability in noble and novel ways.

Hotel Andaluz
Albuquerque, New Mexico
This art-obsessed hotel, which features a large lobby mural, weekly art events, and a 3,000+ square-foot gallery, is itself a work of art, with salvaged building materials and reclaimed decor, like restroom vanities created from 1980s ceiling remnants, bed frames crafted from salvaged wood, and restaurant tabletops made of recycled cork. Operationally, there's a geothermal water-heating system (which keeps 214,000 pounds of greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere) and a rooftop rainwater-capturing system to water plants. The property is also one of only two hotels in the United States to land both LEED-Gold certification and a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
