The Iron Man 3 Man-Cave: An Insider's Tour of Robert Downey Jr.'s Luxurious Mansion

A room-by-room analysis—with product picks—from the movie's production designer and set decorator.

Some superheroes have superpowers and others just have a dark backstory, a little ingenuity, and a whole lot of cash to burn. In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark, played by the perfectly deadpan Robert Downey Jr., falls in the latter camp. A billionaire playboy and engineer, Stark enjoys only the finest in life (and he doesn't brood over it, unlike a certain nocturnal vigilante we might mention).

All the eye candy in the latest film (in theaters now) had us in a covetous frame of mind, so Details spoke with production designer Bill Brzeski about the perfectly appointed rooms in the new-and-improved Stark mansion, while set decorator Danielle Berman tipped us off on where to purchase some of the décor. Now you can finally start building a Marvel-worthy man cave of your own.

The Stark Mansion Exterior

"We had the luxury of the whole house being destroyed in the last Iron Man movie, so Tony, being a rich guy, totally redecorated. We completely redesigned the house and approached it from a Deconstructionist angle. The architect John Lautner, from the '70s, was a big influence there. We made it grander and more open so it fits that kind of laidback, Malibu lifestyle. In the colonies there, the houses are all modern and so beautifully done."
